Join ArtsCentric on March 20, 2026, for a night of glamour and legacy at the Engineers Club in Baltimore. Celebrate the past and fund the future of Black artistry.

On March 20th, ArtsCentric invites you to step back into the glamour of the Royal Theatre. Once the crown jewel of Baltimore’s Pennsylvania Avenue, this stage was the proving ground for icons like Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, and Duke Ellington. It wasn't just a building; it was a sanctuary where Black artistry thrived without compromise.
Our mission is to ensure that the "stars" of tomorrow have a platform as powerful as the one that stood at 1329 Pennsylvania Avenue. By joining us for this Gala, you aren't just attending an event; you are funding the training, advocacy, and "color-conscious" casting that keeps Baltimore's artistic heartbeat alive.
For too long, systemic barriers have limited access to professional training, resources, and performance opportunities for Black artists—on stage, behind the scenes, and in every space where stories get shaped. When those doors stay closed, audiences miss out, communities lose cultural legacy, and brilliant voices are pushed to the margins.
But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Community support is what keeps the lights on—funding scholarships, underwriting classes, providing mentorship, and creating real opportunities for Black creatives to be seen, paid, and celebrated. It’s how vibrant stories move from “almost” to opening night, and how raw talent becomes lasting impact.

ArtsCentric is committed to re-examining traditional roles and advancing original stories from specific cultures. We provide the training, access, and stage that emerging artists need to shine.
Since April 2003, we have been Baltimore’s home for innovative, community-oriented performance.

Led by Legends of the Stage and the State.
We are honored to be guided by two trailblazers who have dedicated their lives to ensuring that Black voices are not only heard but also celebrated.

A lifelong educator and Maryland State Delegate (District 11A), Delegate Pasteur is "a teacher first," with over four decades of service in Baltimore City and County Public Schools. A former drama and speech teacher and university theater fellow, she has championed equity and excellence for Maryland’s youth throughout her career.
Delegate Pasteur represents the bridge between education and advocacy. Her presence reinforces the gala’s mission to provide professional training and scholarships to the next generation of students, ensuring the arts remain a viable path for every gifted child.

For nearly two decades, Donald Owens has served as the Artistic Director of Arena Players Inc., the oldest continuously operating Black community theater in the United States. A veteran actor and director since the 1970s, Owens is the "glue" of the Baltimore theater community, dedicated to "entertainment teaching" and to bringing underrepresented historical works to the forefront.
Mr. Owens embodies artistic legacy. His involvement links the mission of "A Night at the Royal Theatre" to Baltimore’s stage history. He serves as a living testament to why we must fund spaces where Black artists can perform without being confined to stereotypical roles.
When you join Delegate Cheryl Pasteur and Donald Owens on March 20, 2026, you aren't just attending a party; you are joining a movement led by the very people who built the foundation of Baltimore’s Black excellence. Your ticket is the key to continuing the legacy they have spent decades protecting.

Celebrating Those Who Lit the Way.
This evening, we recognize three visionary leaders whose excellence has paved the path for today’s Black artistry and educational equity.

As an acclaimed composer and the founder of the Soulful Symphony, Atwater has redefined American music by fusing classical, jazz, and gospel genres.
Darin embodies the limitless potential of the Black artist. By honoring him, we celebrate ArtsCentric’s commitment to "color-conscious" work that breaks traditional molds, allowing artists to reach the global stage without compromising their cultural identity.

A world-renowned vocalist known for her transcendent performances in both gospel and secular spaces, Wright has used her platform to inspire audiences worldwide.
Brittney represents the professional success our training programs aim to facilitate. She is a testament to the importance of providing high-caliber performance opportunities that prepare Baltimore’s talent for the industry's highest levels.

As the Director of Fine Arts for Baltimore City Public Schools, Diya is a primary architect of the district’s "Fine Arts 2.0" strategic plan. A recipient of the "Heart of the Schools" award, she has spent decades transforming urban education through a "community-first" leadership model that prioritizes student agency and creative expression.
Diya serves as the vital bridge between institutional policy and the individual artist. Her work ensures that the "educational equity" ArtsCentric strives for is built into the very foundation of Baltimore’s schools. By honoring her, we recognize the systemic change necessary to provide every Black artist with the resources and high-caliber training they need to thrive from the classroom to the professional stage
